Depending on the type, a CT Scan can take 10 to 45 minutes.

Not all CT Scans require a contrast injection. Contrast is given if the onsite radioogist sees some pathology, or if the referring physician has specifically asked for it.

Typically, patients are instructed to wait for at least 48 hours after receiving the CT Contrast before breast-feeding. Patients may pump and store breast milk prior to the CT Scan. However, always check with the onsite radiologist and CT department for their specific recommendations.

A pregnant woman must not get a CT Scan or any X-ray examinations done, especially in her first trimester, i.e. the first three-month period of pregnancy. Depending on the conditions, alternate exams such as Ultrasound may be opted for diagnosing a health condition. Women must always inform the onsite technician that they are pregnant or, they maybe pregnant.

After your CT Scan is completed, you may resume all normal activities. There should not be any ill side-effects and you will be able to drive yourself. We do recommend a high intake of liquids/water if an injection of CT Contrast has been given to you. So that the contrast dye is duly flushed from your body and you do not risk being dehydrated.
